Technological Developments in Education

Information and Communication Technology seems to have ingrained within every human being in this era, Information Technology and Communications that have been globalized to cover all aspects of life. Along with technological advancements that have been globalized have been affected in all aspects of life both in the economic, political, cultural, art and even in the world of education.

In ICT's own educational world is very profitable. However, on the other hand ICT in education also has a negative impact. Positive or negative impact depends on us who use the facility. So, my advice becomes a digital citizen who understands the rules and regulations in IT.

Technological Advancement in Education

According to Rosenberg (2001), with the development of information and communication technology there are some shifts in the learning process, namely:
  1. From classroom to where and anytime
  2. From paper to on line or channel
  3. From physical facilities to network facilities
Communication as an educational media is done using communication media such as telephone, computer, internet, e-mail, and so on. The interaction of students and teachers is not only done through face-to-face but also conducted using these media.

According to Rosenberg (2001), e-learning is an intenet technology use in the broad delivery of learning based on three criteria:

  1. E-learning is a network with the ability to update, store, distribute, and share teaching materials.
  2. Delivery to the last user via computer using standard internet technology.
  3. Focusing on the broadest view of learning behind the traditional learning paradigm.

In line with the development of information and communication technology, the definition of e-learning becomes more widespread is learning that its implementation is supported by technology services such as telephone, audio, videotape, satellite or computer transmissions.

Currently e-learning has evolved in various ICT-based learning models such as: CBT (Computer Based Learning), CBI (Computer Based Instruments), Distance Learning, Distance Education, CLE (Cybernetic Learning Environment), Desktop Videoconferencing, ILS (Integrated Learning System ), LCC (Learner-Cemterted Classroom), Teleconferencing, WBT (Web-Based Training).

To be able to utilize ICT in improving the quality of learning, there are three things that must be realized namely:
Students and teachers should have access to digital and internet technologies in classrooms, schools, and teacher education institutions.
There should be quality, meaningful, and cultural support materials available for students and teachers.

Teachers must possess the knowledge in using digital tools and resources to help students get students to academic standards.
